What is THP?

By Rachel Mar

Transitional Housing Program, or as we call it, “THP,” is a program that was created for youth who age out of foster care. This program allows us to help guide our young adults to a healthy and successful future.

The benefits of this program are to help our youth participants establish a safe living environment while learning skills to make them self-sufficient and have a successful adult life while being immersed in a supportive and caring environment. We provide a housing allowance, a social worker who meets with them weekly, job readiness training, budget management, basic life skills, and apartment furnishings.

Community support is huge with THP. Without our donors, we couldn’t provide nearly as much for such deserving young adults. It takes people and businesses like Evan’s Furniture in Yuba City, the Yuba-Sutter Kiwanis, The Alliance in Roseville, and Colusa Rotary to show these youth that they matter. We are here to champion their future.

Through donations from the above-listed organizations, our youth have received new beds, Christmas gifts, and furnishings to fill apartments.

These young adults are our current and future community members and leaders. Let’s rally behind them to give them the best support we can.

Our newest program at Children’s Hope is our THP career mentorship program. This program is a direct way to make a life-changing impact on those who need it most. They need an adult who will always be in their corner, someone they can look up to and see that whatever they put their mind to is achievable.

We are still working out the details of what this program will entail, but if you are interested in being a career mentor, sign up by calling us at (530) 846-4955 or email us at [email protected].

Thank you for helping us make a difference, one child at a time.
